This Thanksgiving I am in Tennessee visiting family. While taking a walk to appreciate the sunset I got the image of this tree. Unlike in NH, seeing a lone tree in TN is normal. This lone tree makes a great subject when trying to catch the colors of a sunset. When I try to get sunset images in NH, it is often just a splash of color above the tree line. It is pretty, but hard to get the gradient look of the blue slowly turning.
Unless I am printing my work for art purposes, I try to limit the editing I do to my images. Other than cropping, I try to leave the color and sharpness alone. I often crop images to adjust the composition of my photos. I want my images to reflect what I saw rather than what my computer can do. While watching me work this week my Uncle decided to share a program with me, Dfx Essentials. The program allows you to edit the image by adding filters and color washes. Although it has changed the original emotion of the photograph, the results are awesome.
Sarah,
ReplyDeleteI am not a photographer by any means, but I do like the original picture. I believe in simplicity and natural light. I think editing a picture for projects or presentations is fine, but I would stick to what was captured.
I agree Dave. Although the new edits are interesting, they do not remind me of the moment. Thanks for your feedback. By the way, anyone that has the courage to snap a picture is in my belief a photographer.
ReplyDeleteSarah,
ReplyDeleteOooohh, I love the original, but the filters are fun! I love seeing them side-by-side. The three photos together would make a nice piece of art, too.
Sarah,
ReplyDeleteI thought the EXACT same thing as Charisse said when I saw all three pictures lined up by each other - what a great piece of art!
At first I really liked the first filter with the deep purples & reds. However, as you share in your blog, the only picture that reminds you of the moment is the original and to me that is what taking pictures is all about personally - to remember the moment!
Sarah,
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos! I agree with you when you say the original captures the true beauty of the moment but if you posted any of the filtered photos as your original not telling us that you altered them, they could certainly stand alone as an original. All three could be a true representation of a particular place at sunset/sunrise.
PS - I would love a copy of the three to put together as an art piece!
I also love it when you catch the rich deep blues bleeding into the the oranges of the sunset! It is hard to describe those colors or the way it makes you feel as the day is ending and the night is young.
ReplyDeleteNice shot.
@Colette,
ReplyDeleteOf course you can have copies. I am honored that you would like them. :)
@Cindy,
ReplyDeleteI agree, my favorite part of sunsets is when the deep blue meets the reddish orange. Thanks!
